We’re baaccck, and what’s a trip to Houston without visiting Sugar & Cloth’s Color Wall? When we decided to make this trip to the 281, we made sure not to leave this off our list. We fell in love with the brightly colored oasis last time we came and couldn’t deny a chance to re-visit. In true Mint Society fashion this trip was not void of hijinks and detours – But we’ll get into that a little later. What we’re quickly realizing about Houston is that it’s so rich with fabulous shops, restaurants and coffee houses, along with a huge art scene and a great list of things to do.
Cons? The humidity during the summer and the never-ending winding of their highways.
While we love San Antonio and appreciate everything from the Pearl to Southtown and some of our most famous landmarks (looking at you, Alamo) – We love discovering a city’s hidden (or not so hidden) gems. Patricio always has a list of great menswear shops to scour, and we somewhere, somehow always end up at the cutest coffee shops and cafés. A few blocks up from the Color Wall is Tout Suite, an incredible coffeeshop, café, bar – seriously not even sure what to classify it as since it wears many hats. They even has a macaroon bar with insane flavors including, but surely not limited to, crème brule.
For today’s trip we tried to keep it comfortable in layers and sneakers – Patricio should come as no surprise in sneakers, but it's definitely one of those things that can feel foreign to me. But sneakers with a dress can make running around town 10 times easier. And we’ll be honest, while a leather and denim jackets can elevate an outfit, we shed these layers as soon as the humidity hit. A hat was definitely necessary for when your hair and the weather do not mix, and what a better accessory during the Rio Olympics than the Ebbets and Field USA cap?
So there was some rain, and a few missed turns and even a near-death experience or two, but a #MintSocietyGoes adventure wouldn’t be complete without a few hijinks along the way. But we’ve both realized – if things don’t go your way, at least be well-dressed for the ride.
