Coming back from vacation can wreak havoc on your normal day-to-day - Your wardrobe in particular, especially if you fall head-over-heels for the breeze of desert silhouettes. So no one can blame us if we carried our linens and muted colors back into the real world. Patricio pretty much lives in his Birkenstocks as soon as temperature shits 80+ … and today was no exception. Birkenstocks are easy, you can wear them with pretty much everything, and in the Texas heat they’ll help keep you cool. And for a day around Southtown, there’s no better shoe for exploring. While temperatures are warm, there are plenty of fun spots to hang during these summer scorchers. South Alamo Panini & Gelato is located right outside of the Bluestar Complex, and has become a huge hit with a number of different flavors to choose from, and the cutest mint cups to eat out of.
And if you’re in need of a nosh and some equally refreshing cocktails (seriously – Patricio’s drink was what Summer was invented for) – head down to Botika at the Pearl. We spent the afternoon exploring their adventurous Japanese and Chinese-Puruvian inspired menu and ending our lunch with Fried Green Tea Ice Cream.
Our looks carried us throughout a warm day and into golden hour. If I had my choice I’d be in rompers and jumpsuits year round, and this number from Old Navy quickly rose to the top of the list as one of my favorites. It’s fun, summer pattern in a mustardy-golden hue are what dreams are made of. And the fact that they’re culottes makes them even more desirable when things get a little sticky outside. And Patricio feels the same way about bandanas right now that I do about jumpsuits – This indigo-dyed dream was one of his finds from our trip to Marfa (check out Mano Mercantile to snag one of your own). There’s no doubt that he’ll carry this into Fall and Winter (and into Spring and the next Summer …. Year-round, really).
So yeah – we’re definitely missing the desert, but still immersed in a desert-like heat. While we’ve converted back to our usual 9-5 wardrobe (most of the time), we still very much appreciate the ease of a good linen shirt or letting our toes free in Birkenstocks. No worries though – we’ll be back to that desert life in a few months.
